Tourisme et culture

Pour la plus belle vue sur Auckland, montez au sommet de la Sky Tower, plus haut édifice de l'hémisphère sud  : les plus téméraires pourront même sauter à l'élastique depuis son sommet tandis que les autres prendront des clichés en toute sécurité. Le sommet du Harbour Bridge permet également de contempler le très beau panorama offert par les gratte-ciel du centre-ville. Embarquez pour une croisière dans le port de Waitemata et découvrez les belles plages sablonneuses appartenant aux réserves boisées qui entourent Auckland. Faites une randonnée jusqu’au sommet de One Tree Hill, le volcan sacré des Maori, situé en plein cœur de la ville.

Shopping

Les enseignes internationales et les boutiques de mode locales ont élu domicile sur High Street et Vulcan Lane. Le quartier historique de Britomart, en bordure de la mer, regorge de boutiques de créateurs, de cafés animés et de petits marchés hebdomadaires très colorés.

Sports et activités d’extérieur

Les Néo-zélandais sont de fervents amateurs de rugby, le sport national. Leur équipe phare, les « All Blacks », fait la fierté des habitants de l'île. Assister à un match dans le légendaire Eden Park est un incontournable de tout séjour linguistique à Auckland pour étudiants et jeunes. Mais le ballon ovale n'est pas le seul sport pratiqué à Auckland... Faites une partie de frisbee à Domain Park, construit sur le cône d’un volcan éteint, ou optez pour une randonnée dans la Hunua Range, un paysage boisé où les espèces exotiques abondent. Une balade en kayak vous permettra de découvrir le superbe Milford Sound. Les fans d’escalade pourront admirer la vue superbe sur les gratte-ciel d’Auckland en se lançant à l'assaut d'une face rocheuse.

Admirez les dauphins plongeant dans les eaux superbes de la baie des îles. Emerveillez-vous devant les lucioles scintillantes des grottes sombres de Waitomo. Détendez-vous sur l'île Great Barrier, véritable paradis vierge. Lancez-vous dans l’ascension du glacier François-Joseph ou du légendaire Milford Track. Echappez-vous sur les plages immaculées du parc national de Tawhitokino ou prenez le ferry pour rejoindre l’île volcanique de Rangitoto.

Pour des rires garantis, mettez le cap sur les comédies de Queen Street, à moins que vous ne préfériez passer la nuit dans un club de K Road ? Sirotez un cocktail en admirant les bateaux rentrant au port à la terrasse d’un café de Viaduct Harbour. Allez admirer les galeries d’art du quartier de Parnell lors des nocturnes organisées une fois par mois.

State New Zealand Ocean Swim Series - Harbour Crossing

Since 2004, there's a chance every year to swim across Auckland Harbour while all marine traffic is stopped. The Harbour Crossing swim attracts over 1000 brave swimmers to cover 2.9km from Bayswater to the Viaduct Events Centre.

Heineken Tennis Open

The Heineken Tennis Open is an international men's ATP tennis tour event held at the ASB Tennis Centre in Auckland. Given its position preceding the Australian Open, the tournament attracts top-class players from all over the world.

Auckland's Big Day Out

Ports of Auckland Round the Bays

Ports of Auckland Round the Bays fun run regularly attracts about 40,000 registered runners and 70,000 participants. The 8.4km flat-course run follows Waitemata harbour. The race starts in the city on Quay Street and finishes on the waterfront at St Heliers Bay.

King of the Bays

King of the Bays is heralded as New Zealand's leading ocean-swimming event, attracting world-class competitors since 2003. Over 1000 entrants start the 2.8km swim from Milford Beach to Takapuna Beach. There's also a 300m tag-team relay, 1000m and kids' 200m event.

World Cinema Showcase

World Cinema Showcase fills the gap before the New Zealand International Film Festival nicely. Dedicated to genres, directors and films from around the world, it includes everything from old classics to arthouse. Auckland's edition takes place at Rialto Cinemas Newmarket and Bridgeway Cinema.
